An Architectural Proposal for Registering Environmental and Cultural Change in, on, and about the East River (2008) The landscape would compress and extend with the ebbing and flowing of the tidal strait, which reaches about 3 knots in each direction and changes in depth by about 5 feet with the tides. Fixed anchors would serve to catch the floating pieces as they float downstream. Shown here is the extended plan, during high tide. The enclosure is made of lightweight fiberglass panels tethered along a path; the path acts as a ballast against the movement of the panels. graduate school project; critics: Laurie Hawkinson with Sean Gallagher
